Jodi conducts a broad commercial practice, bringing over 25 years’ experience to the resolution of her clients’ disputes. She has been consistently recognised in legal directories and by her clients as a leader in insurance law, construction law and employment law.

Insurance Law

Jodi’s expertise in insurance law is recognised in Best Lawyers.  Her clients include the major Australian and international insurers. These clients appreciate her advocacy, commerciality and her ability to assess and minimise risk. Jodi regularly appears in disputes involving complex and technical professional indemnity issues, property damage and personal injury claims. She has extensive experience in professional indemnity disputes involving engineers, certifiers and other building professionals, solicitors, directors and valuers.

Jodi often provides advice on questions of policy interpretation, indemnity, liability, proportionate liability and expert evidence, as well as prospects of appeal.

Construction Law

Jodi is regularly briefed in highly technical construction and engineering disputes, usually in the Technology and Construction List of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. She has been recognised by her peers in several legal directories in construction law and has developed particular expertise in disputes regarding complex expert evidence, engineering issues and combustible cladding. 

Her construction practice includes appearing in arbitrations.

Prior to being called to the Bar in 2002, Jodi practised as a solicitor in construction litigation at Allens Arthur Robinson (now, Allens Linklaters) where she provided legal advice and conducted complex litigation on behalf of multi-national and international clients. She regularly delivers presentations to law firms and industry bodies with respect to developments in construction law.

Employment Law

Jodi is an employment and work health and safety expert who has represented large corporates, insurers and the Commonwealth of Australia, including in class actions.

Her expertise includes the protection of confidential information and intellectual property, executive/shareholder dispute mitigation, misconduct in the workplace and work health and safety. Jodi recently successfully appeared in the Fair Work Commission for internationally renowned fashion designer, Alex Perry. She also led a national project to change the award for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and appeared before the full bench of the Fair Work Commission as part of the modern award review process to change the award structure for these health workers.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Jodi’s expertise in alternative dispute resolution has been consistently recognised in legal directories such as Best Lawyers. 

Appearing regularly as counsel in mediations, Jodi possesses a strong ability to assess risk, provide commercial and strategic advice and negotiate a resolution that is in the best interests of her clients. 

Complementing her practice as a litigator, Jodi is also regularly appointed as mediator. She is an accredited mediator under the Australian National Mediation Accreditation Standards and is a court-appointed mediator by the Supreme and District Courts of New South Wales.  As a highly experienced barrister and mediator, she imports considerable value and judgement when assisting parties reach settlement.

Jodi is also briefed as counsel in arbitrations and has appeared in multi-million-dollar international commercial arbitrations. She has facilitated expert conclaves in complex litigation where there are numerous parties and experts. Jodi has also been briefed to provide expert determinations, particularly in insurance and construction disputes.
